How to hire an SEO expert in Dubai and what to ask them

Shortlist three or four people, ask each for a written audit you can verify in Google Search Console, and sign only when you own every account and the reports count enquiries.

To hire an SEO expert in Dubai, shortlist three or four candidates and ask each one for a short written audit of your site. Pick the one whose findings you can check yourself in Google Search Console. Sign only after you confirm three things: you own the domain, you own Search Console and your Google Business Profile, and the monthly reports count enquiries.

The rest of this guide covers three topics:

  • who searches for what;
  • which questions separate a practitioner from a salesperson;
  • what a contract should lock down.

For price ranges and package contents, the SEO cost breakdown in the Savage Media journal has the figures. This page is about choosing the person.

What people in the UAE type when they look for SEO help

The search data tells you two things: how crowded the market is, and how much weight to give a candidate's own rankings.

Query Monthly searches Keyword difficulty
seo company in dubai 8,100 52
seo services dubai 5,400 33
seo expert dubai 720 41
seo consultant dubai 170 40
local seo dubai 170 0
seo specialist dubai 140 10
seo freelancer dubai 30 n/a

Source: OpenSEO, October 2026, UAE, English-language searches. The same data puts the cost per click on commercial SEO queries between $23 and $43. For "seo expert dubai" it is $28.6, and for "local seo dubai" it is $43.

Two conclusions follow.

  • Ad costs end up in your bill. A provider who finds clients through ads pays $23 to $43 per click, and that cost goes into someone's retainer.
  • Not every top position counts. A top position for "seo specialist dubai" (difficulty 10) proves little. A stable page-one result for "seo expert dubai" (difficulty 41) shows the person can compete. Ask candidates which queries they rank for and check the difficulty yourself.

Decide the job before you write the brief

"SEO" covers at least four different jobs, and a candidate who is strong in one can be weak in another:

  1. Technical repair. The site is slow, pages are missing from Google, redirects are broken.
  2. Local SEO. You depend on Google Maps: a clinic, a café, a car rental desk. The work covers the Business Profile, reviews, categories, photos and matching details across directories.
  3. Content for services. You sell something people research before they buy, such as legal help, aesthetics or B2B services. The work is pages that answer real questions.
  4. Multilingual setup. You serve English, Arabic and Russian speakers and need correct language versions with hreflang.

Write one sentence about your main source of customers today and one about where you want them to come from. Send both to every candidate. The answers show who listened. If you are still unsure what type of provider fits, read SEO consultant vs freelancer vs agency in Dubai.

Ask for a written audit before you sign

A short audit is the cheapest test you can run, so pay for it if needed. A useful one fits on two or three pages and lists specific problems with specific URLs.

The Savage Media study of 537 Dubai restaurant and venue websites, checked on 13 October 2026, shows what usually turns up:

  • 10.2% of the sites did not open at all.
  • Among the sites analysed in full, 22.7% had no meta description.
  • Only 22.0% of those sites used Restaurant schema.

The full study is here. Problems at that level should appear in any honest audit of a typical small-business site.

What to look for in the audit:

  • Each finding names a page and says what to change on it.
  • Findings are ranked by impact on enquiries, with cosmetic issues last.
  • Speed is measured against Google's Core Web Vitals thresholds: LCP of 2.5 seconds or less, INP of 200 milliseconds or less, CLS of 0.1 or less.
  • There is a note on your Google Business Profile if you depend on walk-ins or calls.

If the audit is a tool export with 300 "warnings" and no priorities, ask the candidate to rank the top ten by effect on enquiries. Their reply shows whether they can do the analysis.

Ten questions to ask, and what the answers reveal

Question A good answer sounds like Red flag
Who will do the work each week? A named person, with their hours and tools "Our specialists" with no names
Which three changes would you make first on my site, and why? Specific pages, a reason tied to enquiries "A full optimisation package"
What will I see in Search Console after 30 and 90 days? Impressions and clicks on named page groups "You'll rank on page one"
How will you count enquiries from SEO? UTM links, call tracking, WhatsApp click events, a CRM field "Traffic will grow"
Which accounts will you need, and at what access level? User access to my accounts "We'll create the accounts for you"
Do you build links? From where? A short list of relevant local sources, or none Packages of "500 backlinks"
What do you need from me each month? Photos, answers to questions, approvals, with dates Nothing at all
Show me a client result I can verify A live site and a dated Search Console screenshot shared with permission Screenshots with no URL or dates
What happens to the content if we stop? It stays with me Content hosted on their platform
What would make you say SEO is the wrong channel for me? A clear case, for example no search demand for your service "SEO works for everyone"

Give the last question the most weight. A candidate who cannot name a case where SEO fails is unlikely to warn you when it is failing for you.

Check their own work in ten minutes

You can verify a lot without technical skills:

  • Search their name plus "SEO Dubai". See what comes up and whether it matches their claims.
  • Open their case links. Look for live sites and live pages. If a case cannot be opened, it does not count.
  • Run their own site through PageSpeed Insights. An SEO expert whose homepage fails Core Web Vitals has set the bar for your site.
  • Read one of their articles. Check whether it has a named author, a date and concrete facts. Google and AI assistants both read these signals.

One example from my own work is Moon Mars, a shisha outsourcing business. I built its bilingual site. In the first month of the site, 10 restaurants in a narrow segment got in touch. Within a month, organic search (the site plus the Google listings) brought direct requests for meetings and consulting. The Moon Mars case shows what was built. Ask any candidate for something you can check at the same level of detail.

What the first 30 days should produce

Agree on deliverables, then measure the candidate against them. A reasonable first month for a small business looks like this:

  1. Search Console and analytics verified on your accounts, with the expert added as a user.
  2. A fixed list of technical errors, each marked done or scheduled.
  3. A completed Google Business Profile: categories, hours, photos, services, and a reply to every open review.
  4. Enquiry tracking set up for calls, forms and WhatsApp clicks.
  5. A content plan naming the first pages to write, the question each one answers, and the query it targets.

Hypothetical example: a dental clinic in Jumeirah hires an SEO consultant. After 30 days the clinic has:

  • its own Search Console;
  • a working WhatsApp click event;
  • a corrected Maps category;
  • a plan for four treatment pages.

Rankings have barely moved yet. That is a good first month, because every later result will be measurable.

Some packages promise "50 keywords tracked" without any of the items above. You end up paying for a position report and little work on the site. The SEO packages guide covers which line items to question.

Put ownership and access in the contract

Access is where leaving a provider gets hard. Write these points into the contract or the proposal you sign:

  • The domain, hosting, Search Console, Google Business Profile and analytics are registered to your company.
  • The expert gets user-level access, and you can remove it at any time.
  • All content, images and code produced for you belong to you after payment.
  • No links or pages are placed on sites the provider controls and can switch off later.
  • Monthly reports go to your email with the raw Search Console export attached.

A candidate who refuses any of these points wants a hold over your accounts. Ask why before you go further.

Clients now ask whether an SEO expert can get them recommended by ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google's AI answers. Nobody can guarantee it.

The methods overlap with classic SEO:

  • a named author;
  • clear page structure;
  • consistent business facts across your site and listings;
  • pages that answer specific questions.

A file such as llms.txt is a small part of the work at most.

Ask the candidate what they would change on your site for AI visibility and how they would check the result. A good answer includes running the same prompts in several assistants each month and recording what they say. A proposal that promises placement in AI answers for a fee is selling something nobody controls. The term is explained in the GEO entry of the encyclopedia.

Measure enquiries, then rankings

Rankings move for reasons outside anyone's control, and a position-three result on a query nobody searches brings no customers. Ask for a monthly report built around three numbers:

Metric Where it comes from
Clicks from Google to service pages Search Console
Calls, forms and WhatsApp clicks from organic visits Analytics events with UTM or source data
Enquiries marked "Google" in your CRM or chat Your staff's records

In Dubai many enquiries start in WhatsApp, and that is where tracking usually breaks. Tracking SEO leads from WhatsApp covers the setup step by step. Learn to read the Search Console performance report yourself, so you can check the numbers without relying on the provider's summary.

My position: what annoys me most in this market is overpricing, and agencies selling work that does not function. Reports you can check against your own accounts protect you from both.

What not to do

  • Hire from a cold WhatsApp message promising page one. Nobody can promise a position for a competitive query.
  • Accept "we'll handle the accounts." If they create your Google Business Profile under their email, you may lose it when you stop paying.
  • Pay for bulk backlinks. Hundreds of links from unrelated sites break Google's spam policies and can lead to a manual action against your site.
  • Judge by a sales deck. Ask for live URLs and dated data.
  • Sign a 12-month contract with no exit. A month-to-month arrangement, or a three-month trial with clear deliverables, keeps both sides honest.
  • Skip the audit to save time. Without a written starting point you cannot tell later what the expert changed.
  • Expect SEO to fix a site that does not convert. People may land on your page and find no phone number, WhatsApp button or price. Then more traffic will not help. Fix the page first or alongside the SEO work. Site work is part of my website service.

Questions and answers

Should I hire an SEO freelancer, a consultant or an agency in Dubai?

It depends on the job. A technical clean-up or a local Maps setup suits one experienced person. Large content programmes across several languages may need more hands. Judge the person who will do the work, whatever the label on the proposal.

How long before SEO brings enquiries?

Fixes to a broken site or a Google Business Profile can show up within weeks. Ranking new pages for competitive service queries takes longer. Ask the candidate for a dated plan with checkpoints you can see in Search Console.

Can an SEO expert guarantee that ChatGPT will recommend my business?

No. Nobody controls what AI assistants recommend. A good expert works on what those systems read: clear facts about your business, consistent listings, structured pages with a named author.

Who should own Google Search Console and Google Business Profile?

You should, under your company's Google account. Give the expert user access. If you part ways, you remove their access and keep all the data.
